Happy Spring Break

Happy Spring Break

WOOHOOOOO HAPPY SPRING BREAK YOU’VE MADE IT HALFWAY THROUGH THE SEMESTER!!!! I love spring break. It's always so much fun and it comes right when I need it. You may have super awesome plans like going to Florida or somewhere in Europe or you may be spending it on a mission trip. You may not have any plans and are simply going home for the break. Whatever you’re doing I hope you have the best time and get some much needed rest! But with all this being said, spring break can always bring about some drama or difficult decisions and situations. If you're staying in a house with half your PC in Destin a little bit of drama is inevitable (sorry to be the bearer of bad news but nobody is perfect) or you could be the one who didn’t get invited to the mega spring break house, which definitely stings a little bit. To put it simply, girls are drama and we all know that, no one is innocent all the time, we all make mistakes and can be a little over the top or snappy at times and I am definitely speaking from experience. I’ve been the one who was left out and the one who left someone out, and it didn’t feel good to be on either side. Navigating friendships and girl drama can be difficult at any age, it sucks when one girl in your spring break house just can’t seem to stop creating drama every second of the trip, it sucks when you didn’t get the invite, and it sucks when it seems like everyone is having the most amazing week while yours seems mundane. All of these things are true, but something else that also is true is that God is working in every single one of those situations!

If you are in the mega Destin trap house God is still working and using you there. I know that Destin is the stereotypical wild spring break destination/experience but God can still use you to be a light there. Think about it, you’re spending a whole week in the same house with a group of girls and you have the opportunity to show them God’s love and truth. I am a firm believer that actions speak louder than words, even though you may not directly share the gospel with someone you can still plant a seed simply by how you act or the things you choose to not partake in or certain decisions you may make. People watch you more than you may think and you always have the opportunity to share God’s love by actions. Now obviously we’re not perfect all the time and we all do things we shouldn’t and mess up every now and then but take this as encouragement and keep it in the back of your mind throughout this next week! When that one girl in your house starts to stir up some drama instead of gossiping about her with the rest of the group, extend her some grace (because she may really need it) and be the light in the situation. Think about how Jesus would act in that situation and mirror Him. You have the opportunity to show others God’s love so take it!

If you’re the one who didn’t get the invite to the group trip this year, first off I want to say I’m sorry, I know how much that can hurt and it does suck being the one that gets left out. But sometimes God separates us from others so we can refocus our attention onto him. I’ve walked through seasons of loneliness before and although it didn’t feel the best, I am so thankful for those times. During those seasons I really learned how to depend on God and how we truly do have a friend in Jesus. He is the ultimate bff and a perfect example of what a friend should be like. During those seasons I had so much time to let God really work in my heart and recenter it back onto Him. So maybe that’s you this week and you’re probably thinking how much it might suck that you’re spending spring break at home, but you can actually have the opposite experience! You can spend this week getting deep into His word and getting to know the Lord so well. You can use it as a week to rest in Him and go back to school feeling so refreshed! Like I said, I know it sucks being the one left out and can feel so lonely but you’re never truly alone (Deuteronomy 31:8) God is with you 24/7! So don’t be discouraged, instead be intentional with your time this week and spend it with the Lord!

If you feel like your spring break is a little bland compared to everyone else’s you see on Instagram this week let me tell you it’s not! Please don’t forget that social media is only half the truth. Yes, their posts from the Bahamas may look absolutely amazing (which I’m sure it is, I would love to be there right now with a Pina Colada in hand under a palm tree) but that doesn't mean your spring break is any less impressive. You don’t have to be a worldwide traveler or have 30+ friends in a house to have a “good spring break”! You can have just as much fun right where you are. Sometimes a lowkey spring break is just what you need. Everyone’s spring break looks different and that’s okay, you’re going to feel so exhausted if you’re constantly trying to mirror what others are doing and how they are spending their time. Instead look at what is right in front of you and think about how blessed you are! God places you exactly where He wants and needs you to be (Esther 4:14) and that’s such a blessing within itself! So wherever you are and whatever you’re doing for spring break this year just remember:

  1. God has placed you right where you need to be this week!
  2. You have the opportunity 24/7 to show others God’s love and light just by how you act!
  3. Be intentional about what you’re choosing to focus on and how you spend your time this week!
  4. Take a minute to think about how many good things God has placed in your life and thank Him for it!
  5. Have the best week ever no matter what your plans are and know that there is joy in every season and all around you!

                    HAPPY SPRING BREAK!!!
